Changes are coming to California’s Building Standards Code on January 1, 2026

Rick’s Energy Solutions is here to assist you with your compliance with the new Green Building Code and the new Energy Code.

The 2025 code cycle introduces new statewide requirements that emphasize wildfire safety, clean energy, and sustainable construction.

Among the most notable updates: stronger fire-resistance standards for homes in wildfire zones, required all-electric heat pump systems for space and water heating, and new mandates for EV chargers, construction waste diversion, and electric-ready infrastructure. These updates aim to make homes safer, healthier, and more energy-efficient across California.

To help residents, builders, and design professionals prepare, Permit Sonoma is hosting Ask the Building Expert virtual office hours this fall via Zoom:

•              Thursday, October 30th at 12:00 PM

•              Tuesday, November 18th  at 5:00 PM

•              Thursday, December 18th  at 12:00 PM

Each one-hour session includes a brief overview of the 2025 code changes and time for questions. Learn more and access resources at PermitSonoma.org/Building or visit the California Building Standards Commission at dgs.ca.gov/BSC for a complete summary of statewide changes.
